With its roots in the Jesus Movement of the 1970s, Word of Life Church was planted in November of 1981 by Brian and Peri Zahnd. The fledgling congregation began in a small, dilapidated church near downtown, moved into rented office space in 1989, and completed the current sanctuary in 1996. In the early 2000s Word of Life began to embrace a more robust theology and explore the richness of Christianity’s “Great Tradition.” (This story is set forth in Brian’s book, Water To Wine.) Today Word of Life Church intentionally blends contemporary culture and music with ancient liturgy and sacrament, as we seek to be an authentic expression of the kingdom of Jesus in the 21st century.
